Chasonda Moore Obituary, Death;- A woman from Baton Rouge has been apprehended in relation to the death of another woman following an assault that occurred earlier this summer, as reported by the Baton Rouge Police Department.

According to the arrest documents, Deja Jannae Shanice Jones, aged 28, was processed into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on September 12, 2025. She is charged with a felony count of manslaughter in connection with the death of Chasonda Moore.

On July 27, 2025, law enforcement officers responded to a report of battery on Paige Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Moore with noticeable injuries to her face, mouth, and side; however, she refused medical assistance at the scene, as stated in the affidavit.

Shortly thereafter, police were summoned back to Moore’s residence, where she was found unresponsive. She was transported to the hospital with a critical brain hemorrhage and placed on life support. Moore succumbed to her injuries on August 3, 2025.

Investigators reported that a witness came forward, informing them that Jones and Moore had engaged in a verbal dispute on Cadillac Street. The witness indicated that Jones had seized Moore by the hair from behind and then proceeded to punch and kick her multiple times in the head.

An autopsy conducted on August 7, 2025, confirmed that Moore’s death resulted from blunt force trauma sustained during the assault. Subsequently, detectives presented a photo lineup to the witness, who positively identified Jones as the perpetrator.

Jones was taken into custody by the Baton Rouge Police Department and booked into the parish prison on September 12, 2025, following the approval of the warrant.
